Surfing is surely one of the best sport I ever had, and surely the coolest water sport.
Came to Tofino with few friends, Ricky, Yann Ni, Jar, and Jan, on a 3 day trip drive from Victoria. Tofino is a small town, having the most famous Long Beach in Vancouver Island. The most famous activity in Tofino is surely , SURFING!!! Long Beach having a lot of strong wave, and beach free of stone, which make it one of the best spot for surfing.
Since I am in Canada, and in Tofino, why dont give it a shot? although it may cost a bit. Getting 10% discount, we learn to surf with all the equipment, wet suit and surf board plus 3 hour learning lesson for CAD$75. I took 2 hour to learn to surf on the shallow sea, to surf in front of the wave, accelerate by the white wave, and balancing yourself to stand on the board. And every time you after surf, you have to carry the board to back to the deeper part again to wait for the wave. It is super duper tiring, especially you have to overcome so many wave that come before you.
After 2 hour of shollow part surf, I getting more master to it already. The instructor allow me to go deep sea surf, which is a lot different from shallow sea surf. not just carry the board to the deeper part, but to go further, you have to lying on the board and paddle your hand to go to the deeper part, where the wave havn't reach the peak, or turn to white. lying on the board and paddle, is much more tiring, and still have to go through a lot of big wave. In deep sea surf, we dont surf in front the wave, we surf on the wave. In deep sea, the wave dun wait us, we wait for the wave. Wait for the wave that big enough to bring you, and surf on the peak, not the shoulder. I only success to make it for 2 or 3 time, it is really much more difficult from shallow surf, but much more fun. Cause you can stand on the board for a longer time. So cool!!
