Grace and Mercy

in the movie of " Passion of Christ", there was a screen where Jesus wrote somehting on ground and a woman stood beside Him. a crowed of people wearing the religion costume, put down the stone on their hand and leaving one by one.

this is the verse taken from John 8:1-11.

from this verse, we can see that the group of people that wearing the religion costume is actally the Pharisees. They bring this woman caught on act of adultery to Jesus, wanted to tempt on Jesus.

Here, there are some background of that moment we need to know to understand some conflict here. Why are the Pharisees not bring this woman to the Roman governemnt instead of Jesus for punichment? Adultery is actually not consider a crime on that time, it is a very common thing among Roman Empire. However, Roman Empire had gien the Isrealite to run thier own religion law, except the punishment of death. This is the reason why they bring this woman to Jesus, instead of the Roman government. ( this is also the same reason Jesus is bring to Pilute instead of the Pharisees kill Him by Themself).They want Jesus to condemn this woman on the law of Moses, where this woman should be stone to daeth.)

what should Jesus responce to the Pharisees? If Jesus say this woman should be put to death, the Pharisees can condemm Jesus in front of the Roman government and put Jesus to death for killing this woman. IF, Jesus say this woman should be set free, then He is againt the law of Moses.

just one word, Jesus responce to the crow. " if anyone of you is without sin, let him be the 1st to stone her." . such a briliant responce.
Later, everyone is leaving. and so, Jesus let the woman go.

Jesus have MERCY on this woman.
MERCY is mean not getting what you deserve.
this woman is deserve for a punishment, as follow to the law of Moses.
but. Jesus forgive her. and asking her not to do it againt.

this woman receive GRACE.
GRACE is getting what you not deserve.
do this woman deserve a forgiveness on sin?
None of us deserve the salvation freely!!
is only by GRACE, we are save!!

Jesus threat this woman with mercy and grace, with love and forgiveness!!
how do we treat others in church today?
if a sinner come among us? do we judge them on thier wrong doing? or we forgive each other with love?
IF, you come to church with a heavily heart. is a judgement warmth your heart? or a encouragement and forgiveness warmth your heart?

Let us all learn fmor Jesus.
Love each other, and not to condemn each other.
